Gov. Inslee sign a measure toughening drunk driving DUI laws for the state of washington. The governor says they are taking important steps to protecting people against drunk drivers by strengthening the DUI laws that will make repeat affenders think twice before getting behind the wheel drunk again. There is no way to bring back the loved ones we have already lost, however we can move forward to prevent even more innocent losses on the road.
Washington State Patrol claims there are over 40,000 DUI arrests each year made by highway patrol and local law enforcement. Under the new law, second offense drunk drivers face mandatory arrest and must have an interlock device installed in their vehicle within 5 days of being charged. The state is expecting to test out the new law in three different counties, allowing police to conduct daily monitoring of anyone convicted twice under the law.
